Mart Rovereto
With the presentation of "The Collections", the Mart explores over 150 years of history of Italian and international art. The greatest masterpieces of the museum collections are shown in a display that is strongly coherent with the architecture of Mario Botta. The Mart confirms itself as a great educational machine, whose strengths are the dialogue with the general public and the quality of its cultural offerings.

he Mart’s collection, built up over the years thanks to a far-sighted policy of acquisitions, loans and donations, today comprises approximately 20,000 works. The layout offers an art-historical itinerary that stresses the great continuity between trends, schools and the currents that have characterised the history of art since the 19th century. The Mart invites visitors to learn about the perimeters of art and go beyond them, through the 20th century and its movements: the avant-garde trends and Futurism on the one hand, and the archaic tendencies and metaphysical schools on the other, exploring the breakthroughs in the research of the latter half of the century and the politics, and on to the experimentation of the present scene and the new media.

The display project is permanent, with periodic variations, additions or rotations, and is divided into two sections: The Invention of the Modern, The Incursion of the Contemporary.
The exhibition opens on the first floor with Fragments of a History, that is dedicated to the museum project of Palazzo delle Albere, historical venue of the Mart until 2010. The Focus retraces some key moments of its expositive history by displaying a selection of works from the museum Collections, among which paintings and graphics by Luigi Bonazza, Benvenuto Disertori, Francesco Hayez, Umberto Moggioli, and Paolo Vallorz.
The itinerary continues through six themed sections. The birth of modernity is looked at starting with figurative art and continuing on to the birth of abstract art, shown through the leading figures in Italian art from the early 20th century: from Umberto Boccioni to Felice Casorati, Gino Severini, Giorgio de Chirico, Carlo Carrà, Giacomo Balla, and Fortunato Depero
The Incursion of the Contemporary, on the second floor, is an itinerary dedicated to the works in the Mart permanent collection from the 1950s to the present day. The exhibition leads the visitor on a discovery of some of the most significant expressions in contemporary art and the trend in the most recent works to go beyond the abstract space of the frame or pedestal to establish a direct relationship with life. The protagonists of this exhibition include, among others, Giovanni Anselmo, Alighiero Boetti, Lucio Fontana, Ilya Kabakov, Sol LeWitt, and Michelangelo Pistoletto.
The Focus area following this itinerary hosts a rotating series of monographic exhibitions that provide an in-depth examination of works and artists in the Collections.
